Setting up in business, with Laura Crouchley
Today I went to interview Laura Crouchley who has taken her photography to the next level by becoming a sole trader. After graduating from UWE in 2006 with a degree in fine arts, she moved to London where she made contacts with people in the fashion industry to photograph fashion shoots. She is now developing her photography business using her new Nikon D700 camera.

Philip Bloom

I have been looking at Philip Bloom's work recently and found his website, which is brilliant.
It has tutorials, videos and all sorts to look at and get lost in. Some of his videos remind me of the project I did last year, Window On The World. Although his work really inspires and motivates me from a photographic/cinematic point of view, I did find some of his work slightly self-indulgent.
Below is a great advert for Green Peace highlighting climate change. I really liked how the text was incorporated into the subject and how it comes into focus like the human eye. Well edited, not overly long, great pace which matches the soundtrack and beautiful high def shots.

Photo Marathon Shots
Below in the first slideshow are the 12 photos which I took for the photo marathon. We had to take one shot for each theme and interpret however we liked but each shot had to be in order and relate to the theme. We weren't allowed to move onto the next theme until the previous one had been completed which was a right pain, but a definite fun challenge.
The themes in order were;
Autumn, activity, colour, water, repetition, musical, light, contrast, decay, self portrait, old, flash.
Below are the others I took which weren't chosen for the final 12 but still ok shots

Madeira Photos
Here are the photos from my trip to Madeira none are edited as I wanted to keep them as authentic as possible. Most are taken in a lovely village called Monte.
On another photographic note. My photo taken at Formby beach has been selected for inclusion in the newly released eighth edition of the Schmap Liverpool Guide.

"Wet" Photography - Friday 16th January 09
Today I set out to take photos of things related to the word "wet." Above are all the photos I selected from today's shot around Bath Spa University campus. Thrown in are some others from the lake district. A 'Canon Powershot A70' was the weapon of choice, which I love as it has a decent optical lens and good manual controls like aperture and shutter priority.
I enjoyed doing this as I hadn't picked up my camera in over two years. It was good again to take some well thought out photographs. To upload them I used Flickr which is a photo organiser where the user can upload any pictures they wish provided they are the owner. Flickr is great as its slick and user friendly but the downside is that the free account only allows 100 megabytes per month, oh well... you cant win 'em all.
